25th December, 2009
Venue: Dakshin Kankandighi, Sundarban, West Bengal

Christmas 2009 couldn’t have been spent in a better way as me and my team successfully implemented a solar project in the interiors of Sundarban. On the auspicious day we, Mukti India, in collaboration with Mukti USA and One Million Lights, distributed 40 solar lamps among needy but hardworking students and some poor villagers of Dakshin Kankandighi, Sundarban.
The lamps were distributed by Mr Himan Mukerje, representative of MUKTI USA and One Million Lights, Mr Debabrata Haldar, Mukti India and myself acting as the Chief Coordinator, Solar Vertical, Mukti India. The distribution ceremony also involved imparting knowledge about the efficient handling of the new lanterns and a small motivating speech for using solar lanterns instead of kerosene. We explained how the villagers and students can easily switch over to solar lamps and reduce or stop kerosene consumption at the same cost or lesser cost and creating awareness about solar entrepreneurs in Sundarban. This was supported by good response from the audience and many queries as well. This small awareness might be able to give way to more sustainable solar projects in that area.
We have already started working on planning and implementing more such solar projects to bring lights in the lives of the deprived but hard working inhabitants and students of Sundarban. We look forward to continuing support and wishes from members, sponsors and well wishers for taking forward the work and make it a success.
